MAIN STAGE COSTUME CONTEST

Saturday ONLY

Costumes spanning the worlds of comics, movies, television, anime, manga, musicals, books, and games are all eligible for entry – as well as original characters inspired by these themes. Please note costumes must comply with Awesome Con’s Cosplay and Weapons Policies.

All contestants will be judged on their quality of costume and stage presence. All contestants will go on stage individually (or together if part of a group), exhibit two to three poses as our emcee reads the entrant’s costume description, and then exit. No speaking or individualization of music is allowed. ALL SATURDAY MAIN STAGE COSTUME CONTEST ENTRANTS MUST PRE-REGISTER. THERE IS NO ONSITE REGISTRATION.

The competition is split into three categories: Beginner (anyone who has never won a major costume contest award); Intermediate (anyone who has won between one and three major awards), and Advanced (anyone who has won four or more major awards). Professional costumers may only compete at the Advanced level. If entering as a group, your category is determined by the most experienced member of your group. Contestants must be 13 years of age or older to compete. Contestants under 13 may enter the children’s costuming event as part of Awesome Con Jr.

Best Craftsmanship and Best Portrayal will be awarded for each of the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories – as well as personal Judges’ Awards and one, overall Best In Show.

Any costume is eligible to compete on stage, but only costumes created by hand are eligible for Craftsmanship awards – with Craftsmanship judging taking place prior to walking on stage. If you are invited to take part in Craftsmanship judging, you will be given a time to check in (up to four hours before the contest begins) during which time our judges will meet with you to review your costume. If you are not taking part in Craftsmanship judging, you must arrive 30 minutes before the contest begins.

You may enter both the Main Stage Costume Contest and any or all of our Backlot Contests, but you must wear a different costume for each.

All Costume Contest Competitors must be Awesome Con attendees, and badges will be checked before competing.

Main Stage Costume Contest Sign Up

You must sign-up in advance to take part in Awesome Con’s Main Stage Costume Contest sponsored by ANA, and there is no Main Stage Costume Contest registration onsite.

To sign-up, complete our online registration form by May 26. Please note, there are a limited number of spots in our Main Stage contest. We look to accommodate as many cosplayers as we can, but we can’t guarantee all applicants will be accepted to compete. All applicants will hear back from us by June 2, and if you’re selected to take part, you’ll be emailed check-in information and additional contest details.

Have any questions? Please reach out to caroline@awesomecon.com.

Got it? Good! Pick up some thread, duct tape, and a hot glue gun, and we’ll see you on stage!

BACKLOT COSTUME CONTESTS

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

New this year at Awesome Con are daily costume contests on our Backlot Stage! The Backlot is home to everything cosplay, and our Backlot Costume Contests presented by ANA are the centerpieces of the Backlot’s events! More casual than Awesome Con’s Main Stage Contest, our Backlot events do not require online registration. Simply, sign-up each morning of the con.

Costumes spanning the worlds of comics, movies, television, anime, manga, musicals, books, and games, are all eligible for entry – as well as original characters inspired by these themes. Please note costumes must comply with Awesome Con’s Cosplay and Weapons Policies.

All contestants will be judged based on their stage presence. All contestants will go on stage individually (or together if part of a group), exhibit two to three poses as our emcee reads the entrant’s costume information, and then exit. No speaking or individualization of music is allowed.

There is no craftsmanship judging as part of our Backlot Contests, nor are there distinct Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced divisions. Instead, our Backlot events are designed to give newer cosplayers a chance to show their skills onstage without the rigors associated with our Main Stage event.

Contestants must be 13 years of age or older to compete. Contestants under 13 may enter the children’s costuming event as part of Awesome Con Jr.

First, Second, and Third Place will be awarded based on audience applause; Judges’ Awards will also be presented.

Any costume is eligible to compete in our Backlot Contests, not necessarily having to be made by hand, and you may enter both the Main Stage Costume Contest and any and all of our Backlot Contests, but you must wear a different costume for each.

All Costume Contest Competitors must be Awesome Con attendees, and badges will be checked before competing.
